A Haunting in Stockbridge: The "Screaming Hermit"

For decades, the "Stockbridge Hermit" has plagued the stretch of road adjacent to the Unadilla State Wildlife Area.

The legend is simple, a familiar "hitchhiker" type of roadside tale: supposedly, an old and deranged looking woman will suddenly appear on the side of the road, screaming at you as she chases you car. Other forms of the legend state that she appears in different sections of the woods, within the Unadilla State Wildlife Area. More extreme versions of the legend state that if you see her, you will die.

Locals, perhaps fittingly, refer to this apparition as the "Screaming Bitch" of Stockbridge... or just as the "Stockbridge Hermit."
We drove down the stretch of road last week, even hopping out to venture into the Unadilla State Wildlife Area.

We didn't have high expectations, but we seemed to capture three voices on our SB-7 Spirit Box device. Each voice sounded like the same female... who even clearly introduced herself as "Addison."

Does the name "Addison" have anything to do with the Unadilla State Wildlife Area, the town of Stockbridge, or the hermit legend? We don't know, and will need to conduct more research to find out.
